From Leadership Circle to Camp Dance – Folk in Youth Movements
Would you like to introduce folk dance into your youth movement, but don’t know where to start? Are you looking for accessible, transferable dance material that works with children and young people—without needing to be a dance teacher? Then this workshop is for you.
In this workshop, we explore which folk dances are suitable for youth movements, both for under-12s and over-12s, as well as youth leaders. We work with simple dances that you can immediately use during an activity, camp, opening or closing moment or simply because dancing together is fun.
We start from the participants’ own experiences:
What works within a leadership group? What engages children or young people? What feels realistic to guide yourself? Together, we explore how folk dance can fit into the world and dynamics of today’s youth movements.
You will also receive practical tools:
Where can you find suitable folk music?
What do you (not) need to be able to dance?
When does live music work, and when doesn’t it?
How can folk dance add value to your organisation?
You’ll go home with concrete dance material, music tips, and ideas you can immediately apply in your own group.
No dance background required, experience as a youth leader is more than enough.
